The Greenwich Hotel
We selected this hotel because no two rooms are alike: Robert De Niro's Tribeca property...
The Artezen takes its name seriously: 'Arte' for the local artwork on its walls, 'zen' for the yoga studio at its center, both built into a Financial District hotel that could easily have settled for neither. Opened by Italian-American owners on a quiet corner of John Street, the 89-room property reads less like a FiDi business hotel and more like a wellness-minded boutique that happens to sit two blocks from the World Trade Center. Instructor-led yoga classes run daily, included in the resort fee alongside gym access and an iPad for the stay — a small, specific gesture that says more about the hotel's intent than any lobby design could.
We chose this hotel because it solves the Financial District's usual problem: plenty of business hotels, very few with a reason to linger. The daily yoga studio and fitness center give the Artezen a wellness anchor most downtown properties skip entirely, and The Hide, the rooftop bar on the top floor, pulls in a local crowd rather than staying a hotel-only amenity. At 89 rooms, it keeps a boutique scale two blocks from one of the busiest tourist sites in the city, without charging a tourist-trap premium for the location. The resort fee itself is unusually generous for the category, bundling amenities that many boutique hotels charge separately.
24 John Street sits two blocks from the World Trade Center and the 9/11 Memorial, with the Fulton Street subway station at the corner handling most of the city's lines. South Street Seaport's cobblestone piers and the Brooklyn Bridge's Manhattan-side entrance are both a short walk east, and Wall Street itself runs a few blocks south. It's a location built for a traveller who wants downtown's history and transit links without paying Midtown prices for the privilege, and the block itself stays quiet once the Financial District's workday empties out.
Prix: €€€ (Haut de gamme)

Best For: travellers wanting a wellness routine and downtown history within walking distance
Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: the daily instructor-led yoga studio, included in the resort fee
Dining: The Hide rooftop bar; no on-site restaurant, room service 6am-10pm
Amenities: yoga studio, fitness center, Nespresso machines, iPad included, rooftop bar
Attractions: World Trade Center & 9/11 Memorial (2-minute walk), South Street Seaport (10-minute walk), Brooklyn Bridge (10-minute walk)
The 89 rooms stay deliberately simple: individually controlled air conditioning, a Nespresso machine, a Bluetooth alarm clock, and a flat-screen with satellite channels, all set against a calm, uncluttered palette. The daily resort fee folds in WiFi, gym and yoga studio access, and an iPad for the stay, which covers most of what a short business trip or a long weekend needs without a long amenities menu to sort through. Bathrooms stay modern and efficient rather than showy, consistent with the hotel's wellness-first instinct.
The Hide, the rooftop bar on the Artezen's top floor, opens to the public as readily as to hotel guests, which keeps it busier and livelier than a typical hotel-only rooftop. It trades skyline drama for a downtown vantage point over the Financial District's older, lower blocks, best timed for early evening before the after-work crowd arrives. It's one of the few rooftop bars in the neighborhood that doesn't require a hotel key to get in, a detail worth knowing before booking a quiet night in.
There's no on-site restaurant, so factor in FiDi's dense choice of nearby options or lean on room service, available from 6am to 10pm. The Fulton Street subway station sits at the corner, making a car largely unnecessary for a stay built around downtown sightseeing. Ask about the daily yoga schedule at check-in if a morning class is part of the plan, since sessions are instructor-led and run on a fixed timetable rather than on demand. Rooms facing John Street get more street noise on weekday mornings, so light sleepers might request a higher floor or a courtyard-facing room.
