Artezen Hotel
We chose this hotel for the name's own logic: 'Arte' plus 'zen,' a boutique Financial...
Battery Park City keeps a different rhythm from the rest of Manhattan, and Conrad New York Downtown sits right inside that quiet. The lobby opens onto a tiled atrium that feels more gallery than check-in desk, and the elevator ride up to a suite — every room here is a suite — ends with a view toward either the Hudson or the glass towers of the Financial District. It is the kind of arrival that trades postcard skyline for something closer to a resident's perspective: fewer crowds, more river light, a short walk instead of a subway ride to the 9/11 Memorial.
We chose this hotel because it solves the one problem most downtown stays create: no room to breathe. Every one of its 463 suites runs past 430 square feet, with a separated living area and a marble bathroom built like a small spa. Add Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant's unhurried American-Italian menu and the Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar sixteen floors above the water, and the Conrad reads less like a convention hotel than a private corner of Lower Manhattan — precisely the calibration a Luxe-minded traveller is after.
Battery Park City is Lower Manhattan's green edge: a ribbon of parks and promenade running along the Hudson, closed to through traffic, with the Financial District's towers a ten-minute walk east. The 9/11 Memorial and One World Observatory are close enough to reach on foot, as is the ferry terminal for Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Brookfield Place, the glass-vaulted shopping and dining hall next door, covers everything from a wine bar to a farmers' market. It is the rare New York base that lets a guest choose between history, water, and quiet — without touching a taxi.

The all-suite format is the structural decision that makes the Conrad different from its downtown peers. Rather than a single room stretched wide, each suite separates a sitting area from the bedroom, which matters on a rainy afternoon or a long work call as much as it does for a family splitting space. The bathrooms lean into the same logic: deep tubs, separate glass showers, and enough marble to earn the "spa-like" description regulars reach for. Colour schemes stay muted — greys, warm whites, walnut — so the Hudson or skyline view outside the window does the talking.
Most Manhattan rooftop bars sell the same view: a wall of towers lit up at night. The Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar, sixteen floors above Battery Park City, points the other way — toward the water, the Statue of Liberty, and New York Harbor's working traffic of ferries and tugs. It runs seasonally, with a cocktail list built around the view rather than against it, and it empties out early enough on weeknights to still feel like a hotel amenity rather than a destination bar. For a sunset that is not the same photo everyone else takes, it is worth the elevator ride alone.
The hotel welcomes both families and pets, and its accessible rooms and 30,000-plus square feet of meeting space mean it does double duty for business groups without losing its residential calm on the guest floors. Getting here is simplest by the PATH train or ferry rather than a cab through Lower Manhattan traffic; once settled, almost everything — the Memorial, the Harbor, Wall Street — is within walking distance. It is a better fit for a traveller who wants downtown New York at a resident's pace than one chasing the Times Square version of the city.
